Its been a long time since I posted here. First, congrats to fellow bloggers poweryogi & wakechick on their Chicago admits. I must admit that I really admire poweryogi's courage and perseverance. He really deserved this admit. I question myself if I would have bounced back with the same vigor that he has shown in the past few months. Well done! Also, congrats are in order for Megami for getting into Harvard, a school that eveyone dreams about, but only a few get the opportunity to attend.

Personally, this week started with the first official ding of this app season for me. By the time I received the email from Stanford, I had resigned to the fact that a ding was in the cards for me given that I was not even invited to interview. But a Kellogg admit in the hand did soften the blow from Stanford and made it much easier for me to accept the decision. Speaking of Kellogg, I registered for the DAK in Feb and am all excited about meeting fellow admits. Hopefully, Evanston doesn't look as white on DAK as it looks today with all this snow. The chicago area has been battered with snow the last 4-5 days and this is easily the worst winter in the last 3-4 years.

A new beginning

Going back to work after holidays is always tough. Its even harder when you know that you are not going to be around there for more than six or seven months. But, I try to keep myself motivated as there are things to do, like training others and shifting responsibilities. No, I havent told anyone at work about my bschool plans. There's still time for that.

Earlier this week I received confirmation that the phone call two weeks back from Kellogg was not a dream. I received the admit packet with information on DAK and my new email id :) . The message boards are still not active, though I presume that with more admits to go in the next week it will pick up. The DAK weekend seems filled with quite a few interesting activities. More on that later.

On the application front, I have decided not to apply to anymore schools. So, I guess my application saga (thankfully) ends here. Though I did enjoy the process of writing essays and GMAT(yes! believe it) , the waiting part was not that enjoyable.

I wish all of you a happy new year and good luck with results and R2 apps.

Nature's Fury

My heart goes out to all the victims and their families in the wake of the earthquake and the tsunamis that hit South Asia yesterday. An estimated 20,000 people were killed. Apparently a majority of them died because of the tsunamis that were caused by the deadly earthquake off the coast of Indonesia. I only hope that the government agencies are quick in their disaster reliefs and try to avoid the spread of any epidemics.

Random (Cold) Thoughts

Its bright and sunny outside with the temperature hovering around minus 4 deg F. Winter is in full effect here. Luckily it is not snowing. I am not sure which I hate more - the sub zero temperatures or the snow. Its days like these when I find myself asking the question "What the heck am I doing here" ? Although I have been here for the last six years, I never did really get used to this weather.

I'm more an outdoor kind of a person, but winter sports is definitely not my cup of tea. I just spend my days in the winter with some reading, stints on the treadmill and catching up on the summer's movies. Just got my hand on the book "Alchemist" by Pablo Coelho. Sounds like interesting first few pages. I am not particularly a fan of fiction writing. Its been a long time since I read any fiction. The last one I can remember is "Fountainhead" and that was more than two years back. Reading and movies have helped me take my mind off the upcoming R1 results. But, I am yet to come up with a strategy for R2. Hopefully things will clear up in a few days.
